If you love to shop and find bargains, becoming a personal grocery shopper may be the perfect job for you!

You can start this business with relatively few expenses or formal training, but you will need a nose for news, the desire to collect local grocery circulars to study current sales, a focus on grocery coupons and rebates for extra income, and the passion needed to develop a list of clients.

Finding clients can be as simple as asking neighbors if they would enjoy freedom from shopping chores or letting friends and associates know what you are up to. Local churches and senior homes may have some client leads, or will often at least allow you to post notes on their bulletin boards to get started.

What A Personal Grocery Shopper Needs

You will need a reliable vehicle and to plan out some routes for shopping and deliveries. If your grocery shopper business grows larger than you can personally handle, hire helpers. Be sure you have insurance coverage including general business liability insurance, and if you have employees secure all the relevant coverage for them, too.

Design a custom grocery shopping list for clients to use or create an online website where you can feature specials and take orders over the internet for added client convenience. Also remember when running this business that your clients entrust you with their money and health, so things like the proper handling of perishables are extremely important.

You can run this business as a small personal grocery shopper for a few clients, or grow it to warehouse size where you order food in bulk quantities and then redistribute it at pricing you determine.

When starting up, you will need a grocery delivery vehicle, packaging supplies, a sorting and packing workspace, local fliers for studying where to make your best purchases, and fliers to advertise what you offer and how much you charge for it.

Expanding The Business

Over time, you should look into increasing the strength of your advertising campaigns to include local stores and newspapers, and should also look at working with stores to get discount prices for regular orders.
